DIY chair numbers or buy them?
In short: for a single event, home-printed numbers are enough. As soon as chairs are numbered several times a year, a manufactured set from €2.50 per piece is cheaper than the working time for making them.
Do it yourself
Paper, film, labels.
Printed numbers in plastic sleeves, adhesive labels or laminated cards on a string. Material costs little; the effort lies in fitting and removing: for 200 chairs that is a few hours every time. After a few uses the numbers look worn and glue residue remains.

Manufactured clip-on numbers
Bought once, fitted in seconds every time.
Clip-on chair numbers bent for the chair model cost from €2.50 per piece. They are clipped on and pulled off, last for years and can be stored sorted in boxes. Single numbers can be reordered.
The sums
200 seats, four times a year.
DIY: print, fit and remove four times, roughly 4 × 3 hours plus material. Bought: once from €500 (200 × €2.50, plus VAT), then about 20 minutes each time to clip on from the sorted box. From the second year the manufactured set is cheaper, and the chairs stay undamaged.
When DIY makes sense
One-off party, borrowed chairs, uncertain quantity.
For a wedding or a one-off anniversary, manufacturing is not worth it. If the chair model is not yet fixed, waiting is better too: the sign is bent for a specific model.
